DECKCHUTE BY DOWNWIND
New ways...
Deckchute the product of Downwind. This winter we have been atending at the exhibitions Metstrade in Amsterdam and BOOT in Düsseldorf and we should have used this spring and summer sailing with customers.
Instead we and our customers like everybody else have been grounded at home.
We hope we instead may use a little of your time to an online presentation, this page is especially made for explaining the use of Deckchute for cruising.
Deckchute is an ad on hoist and drop system.
Deckchute makes it possible to hoist and drop:
-
From cockpit.
-
In more wind.
-
With a small crew or even singlehanded.
Asymmetrical
Here you can see a nice and easy cruising drop of a 200 m2 asymmetrical spinnaker.
Karin at the rudder and slowly easing the dropline.

Yes, it also works in a good wind
The question we often get is, "does it work in good wind".
And that is an obvious question. Because this is why you really need a good drop system, we can all drop in light wind.
Below we have a selection of videos in a good breeze.
2 of them is our demo boat and the rest is different sizes a J80, X-35 and Xp-55, we are planning to go to a much bigger boat soon, there is no limit to the size.
Asymmetrical drop
Morten who made this video called it a stress test, it was made in heavy vind, to be able to see what was happening we did not pull the main.
That gave extra pressure at the spinnaker

Asymmetrical
This was our test sailing of the new ring size for approx 40-60 feet boats. We are sailing on a beautiful Xp-55.
Our test sail was old there was no padeye in the deck so we tied the Deckchute the best we could and the supportlegs was a prototype.
But except for these flaws we where very happy for the test.
